“Málaga, La Bombonera”: the anthem of Málaga CF

Discover the history and meaning of “Málaga, La Bombonera”, the anthem sung by Málaga CF supporters before matches at La Rosaleda.

Gepubliceerd op 19 juli 2026

Few moments introduce La Rosaleda better than thousands of supporters raising blue-and-white scarves and singing “Málaga, La Bombonera” before kick-off. For a first-time visitor, it is the point when a collection of individual fans suddenly feels like one crowd.

When was the anthem introduced?

The anthem was unveiled during the 13th edition of the Trofeo Costa del Sol in 1973. That places it firmly within one of the club’s strongest football traditions: a prestigious summer tournament that once brought leading international teams and players to Málaga.

More than half a century later, the song remains embedded in matchday life. It is frequently sung a cappella immediately before kick-off, with scarves held above heads around the stadium.

Why is it called “La Bombonera”?

“La Bombonera” literally suggests a chocolate box. In the anthem, the phrase works as an affectionate image for Málaga and its stadium: compact, colourful and emotionally charged.

Football supporters may also associate the nickname with Boca Juniors’ famous stadium in Buenos Aires, but in Málaga the words have developed their own local meaning through the anthem. They are now inseparable from the blue-and-white identity of La Rosaleda.

What is the song about?

The anthem celebrates several recurring ideas:

  • Málaga’s blue-and-white colours;
  • the city and the Costa del Sol;
  • loyalty through wins and defeats;
  • courage and determination on the pitch;
  • supporters who continue singing;
  • the journey to La Rosaleda;
  • collective pride in being Malaguista.

The words are direct rather than complicated. That is one reason the song works so well inside a stadium: even a visitor can understand the emotional purpose before knowing every line.

How should a visitor join in?

You do not need to learn the entire anthem before attending. The easiest way to participate is to:

  1. Have your scarf ready before kick-off.
  2. Follow the crowd when scarves are raised.
  3. Join the repeated words you recognise.
  4. Finish with the emphatic “M-A-L-A-G-A”.

The goal is not perfect pronunciation. It is taking part in the shared ritual.

Can we publish all the lyrics here?

We have deliberately not reproduced the complete lyrics on this page. Our downloadable matchday programme includes a fan-oriented guide to the anthem and its meaning, while this article focuses on the history and matchday tradition.

Hear it in its natural setting

Videos can give you the tune, but the anthem makes most sense inside La Rosaleda, surrounded by scarves and voices just before the teams begin.
