Málaga players who represented Spain
A guide to the players who wore Málaga colours and represented Spain, from Pedro Bazán and Migueli to Isco, Cazorla and Nacho Monreal.
Málaga’s history with the Spanish national team stretches across generations and across the different club identities that have played at La Rosaleda.
The list includes local heroes, academy products and players who arrived in Málaga before or during major international careers.
Pedro Bazán: the first Malaguista international
Pedro Bazán was the first player from Málaga’s club history to represent Spain at senior level. A prolific goalscorer for CD Málaga, he remains one of the most important figures associated with the early decades of La Rosaleda.
Migueli: a symbol of the historic club
Migueli won two Spain caps while representing Málaga and became a defining player of the club’s celebrated 1970s side. His status comes from both his international recognition and his long connection to Málaga.
Juanito: Málaga roots, national icon
Juan Gómez “Juanito” was born in Fuengirola and began his senior story with Atlético Madrid and Burgos before becoming a Real Madrid and Spain legend. His place in Málaga football culture goes beyond a conventional club-statistics list because he represents the province’s contribution to Spanish football.
The modern generation
Málaga’s strongest modern teams brought several Spain internationals to La Rosaleda:
Santi Cazorla
Cazorla arrived as an established Spanish international and played a central role in the side that qualified for the Champions League. He was part of Spain’s Euro 2012-winning squad.
Nacho Monreal
The left-back’s consistency at Málaga helped establish him at international level before his move to Arsenal.
Isco
An academy-developed star, Isco became one of Europe’s most admired young midfielders during Málaga’s Champions League campaign. His later Spain career made him the most globally recognisable Malaguista product of his generation.
Ignacio Camacho
Camacho’s midfield performances at La Rosaleda earned senior Spain recognition and made him a favourite among supporters.
Juanmi
Another academy product, Juanmi developed at Málaga before becoming a senior Spain international and building a long La Liga career.
Pablo Fornals and Diego Llorente
Both players strengthened their reputations at Málaga before becoming regular members of Spain squads later in their careers.
Other Spanish internationals linked to Málaga
The wider list includes players such as Albert Luque, Salva Ballesta, Koke Contreras, Rufete, Joaquín, José Mari, Adrián López and Fernando Hierro. Some made their main international impact elsewhere, but their presence at La Rosaleda adds depth to the club’s national-team history.
Why this history matters
Málaga are not one of Spain’s largest clubs, yet La Rosaleda has repeatedly provided a platform for elite Spanish players. The club has developed local talent, revived careers and formed teams strong enough to put players into national-team conversations.
